The Kwara North All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus has endorsed Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa popularly known as BOB as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State and also declared its support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
The development was announced on Wednesday during an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Ilorin, led by the caucus coordinator, Lukman Sabi-Musa with party leaders from Edu, Patigi, Moro, Kiama and Baruten Local Government Areas of the state.
In his address, Mr Sabi-Musa described Mr Bolarinwa, who hails from Kwara South, as “a leader of proven integrity, administrative competence and unifying capacity.”
He noted that his experience in governance positions him as a credible and formidable candidate capable of delivering inclusive development across Kwara State.
The Kwara North APC caucus stressed that while it supports the aspiration for Kwara North to produce a governor, such ambition must not override merit.
“The ultimate objective of governance is not merely to produce a governor based on origin, but to ensure purposeful leadership that will uplift our region and the entire state,” Mr Sabi-Musa said.
He added that competence, independence, credibility and proven capacity must remain the guiding principles in choosing leadership.
The group also reaffirmed its support for Mr Tinubu’s second term campaign, adding that it aligns with the president’s policies.
The caucus, however, dissociated itself from what it described as “recent press statements and hastily-organised rallies by some individuals who claimed to be pushing for zoning of the governorship to Kwara North.”
“We categorically reject these actions and dissociate ourselves from such representations,” Mr Sabi-Musa added.
He noted that governance should transcend ethnic, tribal or sectional considerations, adding that Kwara North APC stakeholders are “resolute, informed and committed to good governance.”
He added, “The focus must remain on competence and capacity, qualities that not only win elections but also guarantee inclusive governance and equitable development.”
